Abraham Varghese officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Paul Cemetery in Mansura, Louisiana immediately following the Holy Mass.

Dorothy, a lifelong resident of Marksville, entered eternal rest on January 25, 2023, at 1:24 A.M. at the age of 78 at Avoyelles Hospital in Marksville, Louisiana.  Dorothy was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Marksville, Louisiana where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.  She graduated from Grambling College (now known as Grambling State University) in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  Dorothy was a dedicated educator who taught for over 33 years at retirement.  She also attained a Special Education certification from Southern University.  Early in her career, she taught at Fort Rucker Elementary School (Alabama), but most of her time as an educator was at Marksville Elementary School.  After retirement, she continued educating students by becoming a substitute teacher for the Avoyelles Parish School Board and a religious education teacher at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends, shopping, playing solitaire, praying the rosary, solving word puzzles, reading magazines, and watching Judge Judy.  Her pride and joy were her grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.  Before becoming ill, she volunteered at a local hospice center where she sat and prayed with patients and brought them communion.  She was a lifelong philanthropist for various Catholic charities around the globe.

Dorothy will be missed by her loving husband of 54 years, Leo Phillip Rogers, and her two dedicated daughters, Trina Annette Rogers-Preston (Richard) and Sherri Lynn Rogers-Hall (Jason).  She was blessed to have five beautiful grandchildren whom she loved so much:  Gabrielle Preston, Matthew Preston, Nora Preston, Mason Hall, and Madison Hall. Additionally, Dorothy’s living siblings include Josephine Fontenot (Clifton), Sister Mary Concetta Augustine, Audrey Keller (George), Karen Alexander (Eugene), and Dr. Merlin Augustine, Jr. (Beverly).  She had a host of nieces, nephews, and godchildren who all loved her dearly.

She was the daughter of the late Merlin Joseph Augustine, Sr., and Nora Mayeaux Augustine.  Dorothy was also preceded in death by her oldest sister, Catherine Alexander (Harold), and her foster brothers, Gerald Sarpy (Brenda), Pete Sarpy, and Michael Sarpy (Carolyn).  She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, her eldest sister, and her foster brothers.

Active pallbearers include her nephews: Lynn Alexander, Michael Alexander, Robert Fontenot, Francis Keller, Derrick Rogers, Francis Rogers,  Jesse Rogers, and Jamire Sarpy.

Dorothy’s husband, children, and grandchildren would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the following healthcare professionals who did a tremendous job in making her comfortable throughout her illness and during her final days:
