Samuel “Sammy” Mayeux, age 82, passed away at the Hessmer Nursing Home on Friday, September 16th, 2022.

A Memorial Mass service for Sammy Mayeux will be held at St. Mary's Assumptions Catholic Church on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 9.30a.m.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Sally (Tim) McKenzie of South Burlington, VT and Shaun Mayeux of Daphne, AL; granddaughters, Anya McKenzie and Ashleigh Mayeux. He is also survived by his sister, Ethel Sue Bordelon and sister-in-law, Beverly Mayeux as well as many nephews and nieces along with surviving members of his deceased spouse’s family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Mayeux; parents, Harold and Julia Coco Mayeux and brother, Harold “Cookie” Mayeux, Jr.

Sammy was a simple man, with a lifelong, strong Catholic faith. In recent years, he could be seen at daily mass. He enjoyed meeting new people and engaging in thoughtful conversation with anyone he met. He welcomed many pets into the home with warm, loving care and attention to all of them equally. He very much loved his granddaughters and was very proud of them as they both recently entered college.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to the All-Saints Hospice Team and Hessmer Nursing Home Staff who took great care of him in his final days. The family is at peace and their memories will bring comfort and serenity to all.

Family and friends are invited to sign and view the online guestbook at www.escudefuneralhome.com. The family will have a memorial mass at a later date with those details to be announced later.
