A private graveside service for Mae Rita Augustine of Mansura will be held for immediate family officiated by Fr. Irion St. Romain at St. Paul Cemetery in Mansura. A memorial service will be held on a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home.

Mae Rita Augustine, age 87, beloved Mother and Wife, was called to her eternal resting place on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. She entered this world on November 2, 1932 in Mansura, Louisiana, born to the late Winnie Prier Walter and Widdie Walter. She was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Mansura, Louisiana. She was also a devoted member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 174 for 47 years.

Mae Rita was united in holy matrimony to the late Raphael Augustine, Sr. on June 19, 1949. To this union seven children were born. Raphael, Jr., Donald, Priscilla, Thelma, Joseph, Bridget, and Sherman were raised in a God-fearing household. She pressed the importance of education in all her children.

She leaves to cherish her memories of kindness, love, and laughter her seven children: Raphael Augustine, Jr. of Mansura, Donald “Wendell” (Rita) Augustine of Baton Rouge, Priscilla (Wilbert) Wilson of Orlando, Florida, Thelma “Maxine” Edwards of Woodworth, Joseph Gabriel (Tamara) Augustine of Woodworth, Bridget (Anthony) Stone of Midland, Michigan, Sherman (Barbara Ann) Augustine of Cottonport; two sisters-in-law, Eunice Washington of Glen Burnie, Maryland and Theresa Johnson of Mansura; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Winnie & Widdie Walter; two brothers, Herman Francois and Adam Walter; three sisters, Celina Sampson, Madeline Walter, and Eve Profit; her husband of 67 years, Raphael Augustine, Sr.; and one granddaughter, Karisha Hegger.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Mae Rita Augustine, request that donations be made in her memory to The Food Bank of Central Louisiana.
