Al Lemoine, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, July 7th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Al graduated from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas with a degree in Education. He completed his Master’s degree from LSU in Education and went on to a lasting and fulfilling career. This included history teacher at Cottonport High School, adult education administrator, Principal of Plaucheville K-12 School and Principal of Mansura Middle School. His career culminated with his becoming the Superintendent of Schools in Avoyelles Parish.

In his spare time, Al loved spending time with family, traveling the world, and working in his yard. His commitment to community service meant he spent countless hours volunteering for various organizations including the Retired Teachers Association, Retired Superintendents Association, Orchard Foundation, Ward 3 Water Board, Avoyelles Water Commission and Avoyelles Hospital. He presided as the Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in Bunkie, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Cottonport, Chairman of the Board of the Rapides Foundation, President of the Retired Superintendents state organization, President of Avoyelles Parish Retired Teachers Association and President of the Mansura Chamber of Commerce.  His unwavering faith was evident as a dedicated parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Mary Kathleen Rodriguez Lemoine of Longbridge; daughters, Elizabeth Lemoine Hardwick (John) of Clarksville, TN, Jennifer Lemoine Zimmermann (Oliver) of Austin, TX, Rebecca Ivy Lemoine of Mansura, and Allison Lemoine Ferguson (Robert) of Longbridge; sisters, Christine Carol Lemoine DeMars of Mansura and Norma Lemoine Sherman of Monroe. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eva, Anne, and Luke Zimmermann, McKinley, Margeaux, and Pierce Ferguson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albin Sr. and Norma Bordelon Lemoine; siblings, Jeanne Lemoine Bonnette, Margaret Lemoine Newton, Ignatius “Buddy” Lemoine, Michael G. Lemoine, and Felice Lemoine Viguerie.

Al is remembered as an honorable man of faith; one who was kind, intelligent, and always a teacher. His love of history was evident in his prolific storytelling. He took responsibility to his family and his community seriously and you could depend on him to be helpful and give good advice. He will be remembered as a thoughtful and loving husband, a caring and supportive father and a giving and big-hearted grandfather. His role as grandfather was one of his proudest achievements.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School in his name. Donations can also be made to Smile Train in honor of his brother Michael Lemoine.
