Funeral Mass for Albert "Claybear" Sampson, Sr. of Mansura will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating. Burial will be held at the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Mansura.
Albert Wayne Sampson was born to the union of the late Peter Sampson, Sr. & Genevieve Rose Prevot Sampson on February 11, 1962, in Pineville, LA. Albert graduated from Mansura High School in 1982. He accepted the Lord and was baptized at an early age. He was a devout Catholic and a devoted member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church until his death. He was an active member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #174 and held the position of Inner Guard.
On December 31, 1983, Albert was married to Constance Bonton. To this union, three children were born. Albert Wayne Sampson, Jr. Robert Cody Sampson, and Chance Paul Sampson. Albert was a hardworking man providing faithfully for his family. Albert was employed as a butcher at Kelone's Grocery in Mansura. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, and cooking wildlife for his family. He is known for his famous hog head cheese, stuffed chicken, and cracklings. He was always generous and willing to help others.
On July 4, 2021, the good Lord called him home. "You have fought a good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept the faith, come on home to me where I will give you rest."
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Albert (Allegra) Wayne Sampson, Jr. of Mansura, Robert Cody Sampson of Bunkie, and Chance Paul Sampson of Marksville; five sisters: Mary Sampson Jones of Mansura, Lorraine (Virgil) Sampson Seals of Metairie, Brenda (Thomas) Sampson Nelson of Houston, TX., Carolyn (Curtis) Sampson Celestine of Cottonport, and Rose Veronica Sampson of Mansura; five brothers: Peter Sampson, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, James (Donna) Sampson of Mansura, Leroy (Lonnette) Sampson, Sr. of Castle Hayne, NC, Mark (Alfreda) Sampson, Sr. of Clouthierville, LA and Phillip (Lorraine) Sampson, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Annette Sampson of Perris, CA; four grandchildren: Kyron Lavalais, Dakota Sampson, Adreianna Hines, and Areianna Hines; a very special friend, Beverly Patterson of Alexandria; and friends that were like brothers, Terrance Francisco, Merrick James, Michael Dobinson, Teddy Deshotel, Chris Young, Peter Oliver, Kenneth Prevot, George Alexander, Chris Sampson, Brian Prier, Frances Rogers, Keith Bonton, Reginald Bonton, Edward Prevot, Scott Morgan, and Louis "Moe" Foster. A host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers: Marcus Sampson, Milton Simmons, Jr., Terrance Francisco, Aaron Dupas, Jr., Travis Winfield, Chris Sampson, & Vincent Sampson. Honorary pallbearers: Albert Sampson, Jr., Robert Cody Sampson, Chance Paul Sampson, Phillip Sampson, Sr. Curtis Celestine, Peter Sampson, Jr., James Sampson, Leroy Sampson, Sr., Mark Sampson, Sr., Thomas Nelson, & Virgil Seals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Genevieve Rose Prevot Sampson; three brothers, Arnold Sampson, Larry Sampson, and Leo Paul Sampson; and his sister-in-law, Geraldine Kirk Sampson.
Visitation will begin at 9:00am until 10:30am on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.
