Silton Turner, Sr. was born on January 13, 1934, in Simmesport, Louisiana to the late Henry & Leaster Harrell-Turner.  He was the eldest of eight children.

After the untimely death of his father, Silton became the patriarch of his family. He quickly had to lace up his bootstraps, learn the value of hard work, and the responsibility of family.

Silton accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church currently known as Tree of Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Leslie Draper, III. He served in various capacities over the years; Chairman of the Deacon Board, Brotherhood, Sunday School Superintendent, keeper of the grounds, and maintenance.

Silton was very well known in the community as the local firewood supplier and the family farmer.  He started his own pulpwood business with his long-time friend, Sam Kirk.  He grew the best corn, okra, mustard greens, cucumbers, and purple hull peas to name a few.

Silton loved the outdoors and spent most of his time enjoying it! In early 1977 driving down an old country road, he met the love of his life, Doris Dean Brown. She was a tough one, but he eventually stole her heart.  They were married shortly thereafter on December 24, 1977.  "Mama" as he liked to call her, loved her "Doo" and stayed by his side until death.
