Ruby Gatlin Sykes, aged 74, passed away at her residence on Monday, May 4, 2026.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Escude Funeral Home in Simmesport (625 Main St.) at 1:00PM with brother, Danny Simple officiating.

Burial will follow at The Heart of Worship Church Cemetery in Lettesworth (18049 Legonier Rd).

Visitation will begin from 10:00AM until 1:00PM, at Escude Funeral Home in Simmesport on Saturday, May 9, 2026. (625 Main St.)

She is cherished by her daughter, Rhonia Smith (Ronnie); those who loved her like a sister, Faye Vinson, Donald Vinson, John Vinson Jr., Kenny Vinson, Alicia Payne, and Rhonda Arceneaux; grandchildren, Alyssa Sullivan (Shane), Zachary Smith (Brittany), Emily Haywood (Justin); great-grandchildren, Wynter Haywood, Riley Smith and Amelia Smith, Weston Haywood; and her long time companion for over 20yrs, Dwight Saucier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Ruby Gatlin; son, David Hamilton; Mama Connie Vinson and John Vinson Sr. who lovingly raised her; and who loved her like a sister, Ronald Vinson; first husband, Alvin Hamiliton; and second husband, Sonny (Horace) Skyes.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport (625 Main St.).
