Roy Michel Gremillion, age 94, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at his home in Mansura surrounded by his loving family. Roy was the 12th of 13 siblings and the last surviving member of his parents and siblings. Roy was a graduate of Evergreen High School in 1951. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in the 40th Infantry Division, he was promoted to Sergeant and proudly served in the Korean War.
Upon being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, he attended the Cottonport Trade School which led to his cherished career working for Cleco. While attending trade school, Roy met the love of his life, Roberta. Little did they know that it was just the beginning of a 69-year marriage. During this time, they were blessed with 3 children, Wayne, Pat, and Connie who went on and created lives and families of their own. Roy was blessed to be called Pa by 5 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren that he loved dearly.
In 1956, he joined Cleco as a clerk in the Mansura Office and advanced in his career as an assistant chief accountant, then in 1975 became a customer service manager in charge of the Mansura, Cottonport, Hessmer, and Bordelonville areas. After retiring from his 35-year career with Cleco, Roy became a USDA inspector for the Allen Canning Company where he worked for another 10 years or so before retiring a final time.
He was an active member of many organizations and was very rooted in his faith in the Catholic Church. He was involved as a Mansura volunteer fireman and member and officer in the Mansura Lions’ Club and involved in various community related events.
Some of Roy’s hobbies included golf, dancing with Roberta, cooking, and spending time with family. He always loved spending time outside, whether it was cutting grass, taking care of the garden or simply just sitting and drinking a cold beer.
He never met a stranger. French was his primary language, which he embraced and shared throughout his lifetime. Roy lived a long, beautiful life and will forever be remembered and loved by so many. May we carry his life forward, not in sorrow, but in gratitude for the love that will forever guide us.
