Rosemary Courtney

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30pm on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Irion St. Romain officiating.

Visitation will begin at 11:00am until the time of service on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura with rosary prayer at 12:30pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rosemary Roule Courtney died on Monday, October 18, 2021, in Baton Rouge at the age of 99. She was born on June 5, 1922, in Mansura.

She was the wife of the late Hubert Vincent Courtney, whom she married on June 24, 1945, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mansura. She is survived by her five sons and their spouses, William Victor Courtney & Karen, of Covington; Wayne Jonathan Courtney & Denise, of Poolville, Texas; Randall Paul Courtney & Mary Sue, of Dallas; Russell Timothy Courtney & Lili, of Baton Rouge; and Richard Vincent Courtney & Rhonda, of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Skyler Courtney, Davis Courtney, William Courtney, Devlin Clendenin, Whitney Nastanovich, Hunter Courtney, Randall Courtney, Emily Courtney, Katherine "Katie" Kratus, Sean Courtney, Lloyd Courtney, Mason Courtney, Caroline Courtney, and Lily Courtney, and eight great-grandchildren, Alex Hereford, Campbell Courtney, Ian Clendenin, Zoe Clendenin, Holland Kratus, Phoebe Kratus, Ben Courtney, and Peter Courtney.

She was the daughter of the late Rose Ephée "Effie" Ducote and Jules Victor Roule and the sister of Wiltz Joseph Roule, Jules Victor Roule, Jr., Rosa Aloysius Frost, Ray M. "Jake" Roule, and Mary Agnes Fontanille.

Rosemary lived for many years in Mansura and Alexandria, before moving to Baton Rouge in 1983, where she was a resident of the Village Woods Retirement Community and was a parishioner at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. More than anything besides her family, she loved to dance, watch tennis, and was a wonderful cook.
