Retired Command Sergeant Major George Dalton Brown, age 84, was a native of Simmesport, Louisiana and a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away Saturday, March 30 at UC Memorial Hospital Central, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

 

George was reared in Simmesport, Louisiana and graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 1957. After spending a brief period at Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana he enlisted in the United States Army. George married Ruby Lee Jones on April 20th,1963 in Moreauville, Louisiana. Upon retiring from military service in 1991 George transitioned into civilian life and served at the Internal Revenue Service for several years where his dedication to public service continued.

 

CSM (R) Brown served in the United States Army from October 24, 1961 to November 31, 1991. While on active he completed Basic and Advance training at Fort Sill Oklahoma and became a Field Artilleryman. His many assignments took him to Korea, Germany and the

Republic of Vietnam. His awards and decorations too many to mention here are as follow, The Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/oak cluster Army Achievement Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Medal

with numeral 4, Vietnam Service Medal W/Number 6 Service Stars, Over Seas Ribbon W/Number 7. He was a Graduate of the 1st Sergeant Course and the United Army Sergeant Major Academy. His state side assignments were Fort Sill Oklahoma, Fort Bliss Texas, Iowa National Advisor, Fort Carson Colorado, and Fort Polk Louisiana now Fort Johnson.

 

George took great pride in his role as a parent of four children, a grandfather to many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through which his legacy will continue. He graced the lives of his beloved family and friends with an extraordinary tapestry of laughter, kindness, and an unwavering passion for life.

 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ruby Lee Brown, Colorado Springs, Colorado; one (1) daughter, Greta Williams, Coolidge, Arizona; three (3) sons, Gregory Brown, Aurora, Colorado; Galen Derrick Brown, Rancho Cucamonga, California and Gerald Brown, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Four (4) sisters: Annetta Dupas and Demetria Alexander of Simmesport, Louisiana, Frankie Houston, Cedar Hill, Texas, and Willie Lynette Francois, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Eleven (11) grandchildren and two (2) great-grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Willie Ola Brown Francois; father, Frank Francois; brother, Reginald Francois; nephew, Ronald Glenn Francois; grandparents, Walter and Arnetta Brown, Sr.
