Monica Faye Blanchard

Monica Faye Blanco Blanchard, 67, passed away at her home on Sunday, January 4, 2026. She was surrounded by her husband and children.

A native of Patterson, Louisiana, Monica moved to Cottonport in 1982 with her husband, Gary. She raised her three children in Avoyelles Parish and was active in their education. Combining her love of crafting and baking, she baked holiday-themed cupcakes and organized gift bags for her children’s elementary school classes each year. She enjoyed attending all their sporting events, concerts, and award ceremonies.

Monica was a prominent member of the community as the owner of the Country Corner gas station on Highway 1 in Moreauville. She enjoyed meeting new customers and selling Avon gift baskets at the gas station.

Those who knew Monica best also knew her deep love for animals. A lifelong animal lover, Monica spent several years rescuing and adopting cats, often keeping pets for her family. She always had cats and dogs—a love she passed on to her children and grandchildren. In retirement, she devoted her time to caring for animals, being with her family, crafting holiday decorations for her children, and chatting with friends.

Monica was preceded in death by her father, Howard William Blanco, and her mother, Janet Alpha Blanco, both of Patterson, Louisiana.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary Blanchard of Cottonport; her three children, Eric Blanchard (Jessica) of Crowley, Texas, Stephen Blanchard (Winnie) of Denver, Colorado, and Sarah Blanchard (Kenneth) of Opelousas, Louisiana; her two grandchildren, Devery and Abigail Blanchard of Crowley, Texas; her sisters, Julie Sauce (Darcy) and Stephanie Dupre (Myron), all of Patterson, Louisiana; her brother, Dewayne Blanco (Maria) of Carencro, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Monica will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many. All who knew her were lucky.
