Funeral services for John Bowman, Jr. "Lil John" of Simmesport will take place at Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 beginning at 12:30pm with Pastor William Wright, III officiating. Burial will take place at the Heart of Worship Cemetery of Lettwsworth.
Visitation will begin at the Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 4:00pm to 9:00pm. Reopen at 7:00am until time of service at Escude Funeral Home of Simmesport on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
John Bowman, Jr., age 53, passed away at the Lafayette General Hospital of Lafayette on Friday, March 22th, 2024 surrounded by his children. After a six month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia."Lil John" will be remembered as a sarcastic jokester. He could make anyone laugh and enjoyed doing it at inappropriate times. He was loud and didn’t care who he offended. He enjoyed cooking, racing, flying r/c planes, and fishing. If he was teaching his children or grandchildren how to do anything that they didn’t know how to do he was happy. John was a hard worker and provider for his children. He worked in refineries for 30+ years. He was so proud and excited to have his children working on the side of him. John had a huge heart and loved so hard.
He is survived by his mother, Cathy Bowman of Simmesport; children, Aireal Bowman of Krotz Springs, Alex (Shelby) Bowman of Krotz Springs, Jada Bowman of Hessmer, Triston Bowman of Plaucheville; grandchildren, Brayden, Alaya, Ashton, Avery, Amelia, Able, and Ashlyn.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Bowman, Sr.; and sisters, Charlene Bowman and Chasity Bowman Thronson.
John was very passionate in spreading suicide prevention awareness and mental health illness awareness. In lieu of flowers his children request donations be made to The Scars Foundation. (www.scarsfoundation.org)
