Memorial Mass for John Leonard Batiste, resident of Waipahu, Hawaii originally from Mansura, Louisiana, will begin at 11:00am on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Mansura with Fr. Blake Deshautelle officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Mansura. Visitation will begin at 9:00am until 10:45am on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Escude Funeral Home in Mansura.
John L. Batiste, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in Waipahu, Hawaii. John was born on January 30, 1949, in Mansura, LA.
John attended Cardinal Cushing Elementary School and graduated from Mary Bethune High School in Marksville. He had a passion for both music (trombone) and baseball with the Mansura Hawks team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for some years. He served a tour in Vietnam and worked for Schofield Army base in Hawaii until he retired. John had a love for God, the church, his country, and his fellow man. He lived in Hawaii for over 40 years. He was an usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hawaii. John’s character was loving, kind, generous, peaceable, and jokingly (jovial), he saw good in everyone. He was a peacemaker. He would often greet his cousins and friends with “hello freak.” To God be the Glory for the things he has done in John’s life on earth.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Tammy W. Aviles of Marietta, GA; one son, Little John Batiste; two siblings, Michael Batiste, Sr. and Doris M. Batiste, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael Batiste, Sr. and Celena Brown Batiste; siblings, Raphael Batiste, Jr., Carol B. McGlory, and Sylvester Batiste.
