Imogene (aka Genie, Nonie) was born on January 25, 1943 in New Orleans, LA to Oscar and Eleanor Ortego. After the war, the family returned to Hamburg, LA where Imogene and her siblings were raised on a family farm. She and her husband, Charles Gaspard, maintained the farm until 2024 when their health declined. Imogene was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook and will always be remembered for her blackberry dumplings. Her favorite hobby was gardening; her flowerbeds were immaculate. She was intelligent and capable of taking on any challenge that she faced. Her career spanned office administration in home health and insurance.
She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Charles Gaspard; her son, Kevin Gaspard; her daughter, Paula (Brad) Moreau; her grandson, Nicolas (Laine) Moreau; her great-grandson, Mark Moreau; her best friend & niece, Tammy (Warren) LaCombe; and her sister, Sandra Boniol.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Eleanor Ortego, and her brother, Elliott Ortego.
Visitation will be held from 9:00am until 9:30am at Escude Funeral Home in Moreauville, LA, on Thursday, October 15th, 2026 with the Holy Rosary recited at 9:30am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moreauville, LA with Father Brian Seiler officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Mausoleum.
Special thanks to her caregivers who provided her with exceptional care, kept her safe, and made her life comfortable the last few years: West Towne Assisted Living Community, OLOL Physicians Group-Westside, and Audubon hospice, palliative care and home health.
Her family requests that contributions may be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moreauville, LA or to the American Brain Foundation for research related to Cerebral Small Vessel Disease (CSVD).
