Huey John Desselle, The Greatest Man we ever knew, a son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather was born on February 23, 1929, to his parents Whitmore and Jeanne Desselle in Moreauville, LA. On Saturday, July 20, 2024, he left this earth with his loved ones close by.
At the early age of 18, he enlisted in the US Army where he saw more of the United States as well as parts of Germany. He returned home from Germany and requested a one-month furlough, he then caught a bus to Louisiana and rushed to the diner where the love of his life, Narcille Mary Lemoine worked. He swept her off of her feet and the two married on October 8, 1950. Settling down in New Orleans they started their family and were blessed with 3 daughters, Gail (Jessie) Martin, Janet (Nelson) Lemoine, and Karen (Steve) Lemoine.
They later returned home to Moreauville, LA where they raised and grew their family even further. Over the years he held many jobs and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone needing help. He was one of the best crackling cooks in Moreauville, always making them fresh and ready at Bayou Quick Stop, a family-run business for many years. In his later years, he was buying pecans from all of the locals and enjoyed the many conversations he had with everyone.
During his time in New Orleans, he started what he felt was his biggest accomplishment, his own business running a produce route where he was known as the “fruit man” by many.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years Narcille Desselle, his parents Whitmore and Jeanne Desselle, his siblings James Desselle, Ellen Soldani, Lawrence Desselle, and grandson Jason Martin.
Up until his final hours, his memory may have been failing but his quick wit and sense of humor was still very much present.
Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy include his three daughters Gail (Jessie) Martin, Janet (Nelson) Lemoine, and Karen (Steve) Lemoine. His grandchildren: Kim (Gary) Juneau, Shannon (Erin) Lemoine, Jamie Martin, Shawn (Ashley) Lemoine, Heather (Travis) Arnold, and Hali Lemoine. His great-grandchildren: Keenan (Lexie) Juneau, Cole (Katherine) Lemoine, Dylan Lemoine, Jaden Juneau, Jordan (Dylan) Boatner, Mallory (Nick) Clark, Kenley Lemoine, Zeph Arnold, Zayla Arnold, Emma Lemoine, Zadie Arnold and Zelly Arnold, and his great-great-grandchildren Bentley, Skylar, Maci, Carter, Makalyn and Dylan Lemoine and Lincoln Boatner.
He leaves us all with his best advice “Don’t overwork but don’t underwork” and “Marbles were made to roll” and “Money was made to spend.”
