Hilda Mae Porterie

Funeral service for Hilda Mae Porterie, resident of Port Arthur formerly of Marksville, will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Town (2766 HWY 1192, Marksville, LA 71351) with Rev. Lawrence Porterie officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Baptist Cemetery in Blue Town.

Hilda Mae Porterie, age 83, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX.

Her faith was an unwavering foundation throughout her life. Hilda was baptized at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Marksville, LA and later embraced the Baptist faith and became a member of New Light Baptist Church in Port Arthur, TX. She was married to Eugene Porterie in 1959, sharing a beautiful life filled with love and devotion until his passing in 2007. As a loving wife and mother, she dedicated herself selflessly to her family.

Hilda’s legacy also lives on through her passion for cooking, especially her family's favorites such as roast and okra, which brought everyone together around the dinner table. A true testament to her character, Hilda was a fighter who persevered through life’s challenges with grace. She approached each day with deep faith, never complaining, always looking upward, and inspiring others to do the same. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Herman Porterie of Port Arthur, TX, Robert (LaTosha) Porterie of New Braunfels, TX; Janet (Rev. Harvest) Palmer of Port Arthur, TX; Bridget (Hosea) Brown of Dallas, TX; sister, Bertha (Jessie) Glosset; brothers, Leon (Annie Merl) Jacob, Jr. and Shelton (Evelyn) Gilbert. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Porterie; her daughter, Derrel Jerry; her son, Terrill Porterie; her parents, Leon Jacob, Sr. and Laura Augustine Jacob; sisters, Almatine Dyson, Jerry Mae Branch, Margaret Hall, and Eura Lee Hayes; brothers, Tillman Jacob and Henry Jacob.

Visitation will begin at 8:00am until 11:00am on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Town.
