Helen St. Romain

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Cottonport, LA at noon on Wednesday, May 17^th for Helen Ducote St. Romain, age 94, who passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, Mother’s Day, at her home in Cottonport surrounded by family.   The family will receive friends at Escude Funeral Home in Cottonport on Wednesday, May 17^th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The eulogy will be presented by Tricia Brown, daughter of Helen at Escude Funeral Home in Cottonport, and a rosary will be said at St. Mary’s Assumption Church before mass begins.  Interment will be Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church Cemetery, Plaucheville, Louisiana immediately following the Mass.

Helen was born in 1929 in Cottonport, Louisiana to the late Benton Ducote and Vernice Firmin Ducote. She grew up in Hickory and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1945.  After raising her family, she worked for 17 years as a teacher’s aide at Cottonport Elementary School.

Helen was a homemaker, and with her husband O’Neil, raised seven children.  Her delight was her children, and family gatherings and family trips to the beach were some of her most precious memories.  But first and foremost, Helen was a woman who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was a woman of faith who prayed daily and looked to God for answers.  Helen was fondly known as “Granny Helen” by many in the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O’Neil St. Romain, her father, Benton Ducote, her mother, Vernice Firmin Ducote, and her sons-in-law, Jim Palmer and Michael Brouillette.

She is survived by her sons Joe Neal St. Romain married to Debbie Dupuy and Philip St. Romain married to Anita Ellender, and her daughters Donna St. Romain Mayeux married to Raymond Mayeux, Paula St. Romain Brouillette, Peggy St. Romain Callegari married to Mike Callegari, Cathy St. Romain Palmer, and Tricia St. Romain Brown married to Daniel Brown.

She is also survived by her nine grandsons Paul Brouillette, Chris Brouillette, Jason Callegari, Josh Callegari, Travis St. Romain, Bascom St. Romain, Mitch St. Romain, Trey Palmer, and Ben St. Romain and her nine granddaughters Mitzi Mayeux, Melanie Wascom, Helen Lamartiniere, Abi Guillot, Jodie Jane Middleton, Cassie Palmer, Kelli Hamilton, Katie Jarrell, and Laci Lopez.  Also Janice O’Rourke, mother of Ben, Kelli and Katie, also José Lopez, father of Laci along with 36 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
