Funeral Mass for Eric “Coach” Gormsen, Jr. of Moreauville will take place at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Moreauville on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022 beginning at 11:00am with Rev. Brian Seiler officiating. Burial will take place at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Eric Gormsen, Jr., age 75, passed away on Thursday, November 17th, 2022 at his home in Moreauville with his wife & daughter at his side. Eric served in the U.S. Air Force serving 2 tours in Vietnam and U.S. National Guard. He graduated from Northwestern State University in Education and then graduated with a master’s degree in Administration and Supervisor and his 30 plus from Southern University in Baton Rouge. He served on the Town Council for Village of Moreauville for 12 years. Eric’s heart to volunteer and serve others put him in many positions such as the Director of the Moreauville Ambulance Service and served as an EMT, volunteer firefighter & instructor for the fire safety academy with the Moreauville Fire Department, the liaison for the Moreauville Fire Department & Police Department; and sometimes doing police work for the Moreauville Police Department when they needed assistance. He was on the committee for the Farm Festival Louisiana in Moreauville. Eric was also member of the American Legion in Bordelonville.
Eric’s teaching career started at Simmesport High School as a teacher and football & basketball coach; Mansura Middle School as a teacher, athletic director, coach, and vice principal; and finished his career at Riverside Elementary where he served as principal until his retirement.
He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. People loved being around him because he could always make them laugh. He loved following Kade’s athletic career since his childhood and enjoyed talking history and watching movies with Ainsley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Judy Graham Gormsen of Moreauville; children, Frankie Edenfield (Kyle) of Baton Rouge and Eric “Trey” Gormsen, III (Tabitha) of Mansura; sisters, Karen (Ray) Schrock and Christine Gormsen; brother, Gene Gormsen. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kade Edenfield and Judy Ainsley Edenfield; step-grandchild, Wallace ‘Vic” Shriever.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers: Kade Edenfield, Raymond Schrock, Jr., Eric “Andy” Schrock, Ricky Clark, Wesley Gormsen, & Eric “Trey” Gormsen, III.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric, Sr. and Nettie Moreau Gormsen; sisters, Annette Via and Gail Adams; brother, Douglas Gormsen.
Visitation will begin at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022 at the Escude Funeral Home of Moreauville.
