A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Dr. Mary Boone Von Brock Treuting, resident of Marksville, will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marksville. Interment will be held on a future date at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery in Covington.
Boonie Treuting, age 65, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her home in Marksville surrounded by her husband, sons, siblings, and extended family.
Her foremost duty has been to furnish a loving environment for her family and friends. Boonie graduated from LSU Laboratory School in 1976. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from LSU Baton Rouge in 1992. The next day, Boonie’s sons praised this achievement: “Good morning, Dr. Mom. Can we have pancakes?” Dr. Treuting was a Professor of Psychology and Dean of the College of Social Sciences at LSU Alexandria. A licensed Psychologist, she has been at LSUA since 1994. Dr. Treuting was the Chair of the Psychology department and founding director of the LSUA Center for Teaching Excellence. During her tenure, she received numerous awards and endowed professorships. She was most recently honored with the appointment of Professor and Dean Emeritus by LSUA’s Chancellor, Dr. Paul Coreil, who called Dr. Treuting, “a pillar of strength and wisdom at LSUA” with a “nurturing spirit, infectious positive attitude, and heart of gold.”
Those left to cherish her beloved memory are her loving husband of nearly 40 years, J.B. Treuting; sons, Blaise Treuting (Ginger), Ben Treuting (Rachel), and Robert Louis Treuting (Leilani), and "Omie" to five precious grandchildren; Lenin, Mira, Hart, Ignatius, and Boone Treuting; siblings, Ann Von Brock (Sherman Fearing), Nancy Von Brock (John Tarlton), and Susan Sidwell (Ira).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Robert Carl Von Brock & Mary Louise Boone Von Brock of Baton Rouge.
Boonie’s family is humbled by the outpouring of love, affection, and prayers by her LSUA Colleagues, CENLA Foodbank and Faith House Boards, ACTS sisters and brothers, and countless friends.
Rather than bestowing flowers in the wake of loss, the family requests that you grace your loved ones with an exquisite bouquet of affection while they can relish the beauty and warmth in the present. The family also asks that you give warm hugs to those you love.
Godspeed beloved Boonie. Happy days, not forgetting the nights.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Escude Funeral Home (318-964-2324) 6608 Porterie St. Mansura, LA 71350.
