Delores Bonton

Funeral services for Delores Bonton of Marksville will begin at 2pm on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Congregational First Baptist Church in Marksville. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Mansura.

Delores Bonton, age 69, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

Delores Bonton was born on February 1st, 1952 to Clara Moore in Navasota, Texas. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School class of 1971 in Houston, Texas. Delores attended Texas Southern University for 2 years, majoring in Business Administration; she continued her education earning a degree as a Pharmacy Technician. Delores was employed in the state of Texas and Louisiana as a Pharmacy Technician for approximately 15 years before retiring.

Delores committed her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Marksville under the leadership of Pastor Michael Gonzales. She lived a dedicated life in Christ; she was First Lady of many churches. Delores was united in holy matrimony to Reverend Lovell Bonton, Jr. They shared a life and ministry together for 39 years. She worked using her God given gift and talent as a dedicated member of many ministries; “Ladies in Red” is one of many where she served as Key Note Speaker at several prominent events. Helping others was a passion of Delores; one of her most treasured passions and talents was serving as an Inspirational Speaker to help inspire others. Delores’ gift was shared at numerous engagements; her God given ability afforded her the presentation of numerous Outstanding Speaker Awards. She was a pillar of the community. Delores was a giver, she supported charities such as St. Jude Research Hospital and was known to give wherever she knew there was a need. Among her favorite charities dear to her heart is The Candy Project, (Houston, Texas). Delores was a major sponsor to The Candy Project and her contribution will allow many lives to be benefited for years to come. Delores was committed to ministry in all faucets; behind the walls of individuals in prison as well as serving as a foster parent from 1987 through 1991. She provided a safe home full of love, laughter, and special memories. Delores will forever be remembered as the  “Yellow Rose of Texas”. The Woman with a Rainbow Smile, Heart Full of Love and a Strong Spirit full of an undeniable JOY!

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Eldon Bernard (Rosa) Berry; granddaughters, Mariah and Khaila Berry; godchild, Ahtayvia Augustine; step-daughter, Karen Marie Berry; 11 step-children from her husband, Rev. Lovell Bonton; brother, Raymond Moore; sister, Brenda (Dr. Richard) Brown. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, godchildren and other relatives and friends.

Delores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Lovell Bonton, Jr., her mother, Clara Moore; siblings: Shirley, Mary, Terry, Karen, & Bruce; and a nephew, Jermaine Oaks.

Visitation will begin at 12pm until 2pm on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at First Congregational Baptist Church in Marksville.
