Daniel Gipson

Funeral service for Daniel Gipson of Mansura will begin at 11:00am on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Odenburg with Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Green Baptist Cemetery in Odenburg. 

Daniel Gipson, age 58, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at his home in Mansura. Daniel Gipson was born July 25, 1967, to Leana G. Valant, in Pineville, Louisiana. Daniel was baptized June 22, 1975, by the late Pastor Joseph Holmes, Pleasant Green Baptist Church. He attended Simmesport public schools where he later worked as a janitor for many years. Daniel also worked at the public schools in Baton Rouge and the charter schools in New Orleans. On July 24, 2004, Daniel married Shelia Wilkerson and they were happily married until her passing, May 6, 2018. Daniel was fortunate enough to share the love and respect of Shelia ‘s children, Kysha, Clearance, Sharon, and Louis.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sisters, Ida and Marilyn of Odenburg, and Classie of Mississippi; five brothers, Landry, Jr. (Bonnie) of Liberty, Texas, Earnest, Landry, Jr. “Jake”, Chester “Pop” of Odenburg; and Archie of Lafayette; one sister-in-law, Debra and two brothers-in-law, Herman and Jesse; godchildren: Eric, Bird, and Nate. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, a host of cousins, and numerous friends. He also leaves behind his dog companion, Showboat.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelia Wilkerson Gipson; mother, Leana Gipson Valant; brothers, Edward and Dennis, and sisters, Frances, Mary, Debbie, Rita; stepson, Adam; sisters-in-law, Clara and Lucille.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers: Roderick Perry, Albert Jones, Tyrone Francisco, Phillip Ivory, Eric Mason, Devin Reed, Juwan Valant.

Visitation will begin at 9:00am until 11:00am on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Odenburg.
