Visitation will begin at 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Escude Funeral Home in Moreauville. Rosary will be recited by Elliene Laborde. The interment will be held at a future date.
Daniel was born in New Roads, LA to Leona J. Dauzat and U.N. Dauzat. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023, with his wife, Gail Roberts Dauzat holding his hand and his two loyal Yorkies “Tuffy” & “T’Baby” at their master’s side at his home in Moreauville.
After his retirement from offshore & river jobs, he was a heavy equipment operator for Avoyelles Parish Barn. Daniel loved to fish, ride his motorcycles and weld on projects in “his shed.” During his teenage years, he lived with his grandparents, Edward & Adell Dauzat of Innis. There, he learned fine Cajun culture and spoke Cajun French, fluently. He was a proud Cajun Man and loved the Cajun lifestyle.
His Santa appearance of long, flowing hair & long white beard drew children, and he inspired them to do well in school and listen to their parents. He was always giving them money. Their eyes would light up with glee as they exclaimed “Santa Clause gave me money!” He also loved bringing surprise ice cream to his friends and family.
His loved ones to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Gail Roberts Dauzat; son, Dustin Dauzat of Marksville and adopted son, Matthew Guy Dauzat of Plaucheville; his brothers, Edward (Linda) Dauzat of Marksville and Pete (Tracey) Lemoine of Forest Hill; sister, Kristy (Michael) Brouillette of Chico, TX; self-acclaimed sister, Kyle Durant Giddeons of Bay Minette, AL. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Maylee Grace Dauzat & Anna Claire Dauzat both of Marksville; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his adopted daughter, April Dauzat of Bay Minette, AL; father, U.N. Dauzat; mother, Leona J. Lemoine; stepfather, William “W.” Lemoine; brother, Keith Paul Lemoine and Eddie Paul Lemoine.
The family would like to lovingly thank special people in our lives, Pamela A. Lemoine (he affectionately called “Lucy”), his beloved cousin, Calin (Julia) Brouillette, Kelsey Rico, and Karen D. Ducote for seeing to our family, and Daniel’s needs during his battle with pancreatic, liver, lung, and kidney cancer. Thank you to Aunt Verlena Normand for bringing him his favorite Cajun foods. A special thank you to Allegiance Hospice for excellent healthcare and seeing to all our family needs. Thank you and may God bless you for your fine deeds. A loving thank you goes out to Sara DeMars, NP as she treated our family as her family. Fr. Brian Sellers gave Daniel the Holy Sacrament which we are so thankful for. “May God bless and keep you!”
