Carl “Sonny” Barton Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, departed this life on Friday, September 11, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and stories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Born on September 29, 1975, Carl was raised in Marksville, Louisiana. Later in life, he moved to Mansura, Louisiana, where he built a beautiful life with his beloved wife and children.

Carl was a man who knew how to enjoy life. From an early age, he developed a love for pit bulls and cars, interests that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He loved cooking, spending time outdoors, being in his yard, and most importantly, being surrounded by family. He also enjoyed sitting back with a cold Budweiser and enjoying life. To know Carl was to know how deeply he loved his family. His wife and grandchildren were his number one priority. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and cherished every moment he was able to spend with them. Carl lived a fun and memorable life. His personality, laughter, and presence brought something special to the lives of those around him.

Carl leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sheretta Augustine Barton; his mother, Shirley (Malcolm) Hyland; his grandmother, Leola Davis; his four children, Dabraja Prater, Azriel Augustine, Carlaya Barton, and Carl (Ty’Ronee) Barton Jr.; and his five grandchildren, Spencer Prater, Saniya Prater, Kaisyn Barton, Samyra Prater, and Khyzer Barton. He also leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Kevin Moore, and his sister, Vivian Johnson; and will forever be remembered as a beloved uncle. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Carl Moore Sr., and his baby brother, Justin Hyland.

Though Carl’s earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created will live on through his family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His family will forever carry him in their hearts, and his memory will remain a part of them for generations to come.
