Bert Steve Smith, Sr.

Bert Steve Smith, Sr., 96, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and service to others.

Bert was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He never hesitated to help anyone in need and was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lolita Smith; his son, Bradley Bordelon; his father, Steven Smith; his stepfather, Nathan Gibbons; his mother, Ruby Gibbons; his brother, Ira Smith and sister-in-law, Arleta; and his daughter-in-law, Wendy Bordelon.

He is survived by his sons, Kirk Bordelon and Steve Smith; his daughter-in-law, Lorraine; his brother, Neal Gibbons (Barbara); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bert proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard before spending many years as a respected charter boat yacht captain on the Gulf and the open ocean. A gifted mechanic, he could fix almost anything on land or water. He believed every job should be done right and worked hard throughout his life.

Above all, Bert loved his family. His quiet strength, generous heart, and steadfast example will be remembered by all who knew him. Though deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved Lolita.

He will be forever loved and never forgotten.
